No more R1100S Boxer Cup

After nearly 3 months, my BMW R1100S Boxer Cup adventure is over. Yesterday, I crashed the bike near the Mohnesee in Germany. It is a total wreck and it’s incredible that I have no injuries. I am glad that I did wear my leather outfit.

This is the location where the accident happened:

The bike was heavily damaged, when I got up after the crash. As you can see the rear wheel is gone.

The bike hit the car and it had huge impact, because all airbags exploded inside the car. Fortunately, the people in the car had no injuries.

The rear wheel was located about 30m from the bike. I suspect the rear wheel hit the car’s left frontwheel and was launched.

On this picture you can see that the complete rear section is gone. The wheel probably went through the buddy seat, so it’s good that I wasn’t on the bike anymore.

The road was blocked for a short while to clean up. Two thumbs up for the German police, because they didn’t leave the scene before there were signs warning about the oil on the road. They were also kind enough to bring me to the nearest railway station.

BMW R1100S BoxerCup replica (2004)

It’s been a while since my last post. I was pretty busy lately and the spare time I had, I was spening it on my new motorcycle. I have been very happy with my Honda VFR-750F (1994), but after eight years I wanted something new. I never looked at BMW motorcycles, because I thought only people above 50 would drive a BMW motorcycle. But when I was overtaken by a BMW K1200S, I decided to take a look at the local BMW Motorrad dealer.

They had a used 2004 K1200S that looked great. One week later I was at the dealer again for a testdrive. The K1200S is a great motorcycle with plenty of power and is very smooth. There is clearly a difference with my VFR, but the bike seemed to smooth to me.

The shop also had a 2004 BMW R1100S BoxerCup replica that looked awesome. It’s a aircooled boxer-twin that is much more raw then the K1200S. It has less power, but is more sporty then the K1200S. After a testdrive, I smiled from ear to ear. One hour later the contract was signed and the bike was mine.
